Little things mean a lot . . .

Monday morning started just like any other Monday . . . . except that I woke up a little later because it was a holiday.  But still, just like every other Monday (or Tuesday or Saturday or every day) the first thing I did was reach for my pump to check my CGM.  As I unclipped it from my pajamas I heard the distressing sound of plastic cracking.  Nestled deep in the sheets was that little button thingie that locks and unlocks the pump (yes, that is the technical term . . . okay, not  really).  The rest of the clip immediately let go of my pump and refused to clutch it any more.

“Oh crud, my pump clip broke!”  The broken clip is a pretty minor thing, and if I’m going to have a pump problem, I’d say the broken clip is the one to have.  I ordered up a new one before I even got out of bed (yay for the myMedtronic Connect app on my iPhone!).  Then I dug out the other clip that came with my new pump, the Holster, which was still sealed in its packaging.

The Holster works.  It holds my pump and clips to my clothing.  But can I tell you?  I kind of hated it.  Compared to the Belt Clip, the Holster felt big and bulky.  It was cool that it rotates so I could wear my pump vertically or horizontally, but either way I wore it I found it jabbed into me all the time.  So when Mr. UPS Guy delivered my replacement Belt Clip today, I practically hugged him!

A pump clip is such a small accessory that I’ve never given it much thought - until it was out of commission.  It’s funny to realize what a difference something so small can make!!  What little things have you discovered actually mean a lot?

** As much as I dislike disclosures stating there is nothing to disclose, I find myself compelled to do so today.  I do have a contract with Medtronic, however this post has nothing to do with it. I'm just your average pump user who broke her clip and ordered a new one. **

  1. I always thought my clip would be broken easily, so I bought a back up clip soon after getting my Revel. It is still sitting in my drawer 2 years later at the ready just in case.

  2. I keep trying to get Joe to switch to a pump clippy thingy...he loves his Tallygear...

Cool story on the clip. I had no idea they made them so small.

  3. I can't stand the belt holster either. It makes me feel like I should have a cell phone and other accessories attached to my waist. When I've broken it I have to just put the whole pump in my pocket.
    Go clip users! :)

  4. Only clips in our house. I have a feeling there would be hatred toward the holster here too. I'm going to order backups clips today. Thanks!

  5. Karen, ditto on the holster. I used it for the first two days with my pump, and never again.

I often think my clip has broken, but it just "unlocks" from the pump pretty easily. An annoyance, but small potatoes compared to the functionality I really need from the pump, which is pretty good right now.

  7. I don't suppose you'd care to release your secret on getting a contract with Medtronic?

  8. I have an animas pump, and I was missing my clip under a stack of homework last night... I was so sad when I thought I would have to go without for a while... LOL! I love pump clips. I clip my pump to the inside of my waistband, and it just wouldn't be the same :)

  9. is it silly that my favorite part was the disclosure that disclosed nothing? ;)

  10. Is it bad that I hoard pump clips? That holster thing is ridiculous!

My worst "pump clip" break was when I was riding in my SIL's car between my niece and nephews car seats. My hips "just barely" fit but the extra inches of the pump was just too much and the clip snapped right off. Oops!

  11. I have a couple of clips and holsters, and honestly don't use either. (I'll use "the clip" with my hockey gear, but that's only been twice...ever.) Having to un-clip the whole thing to use it is a bit much for me.
I've been using soft faux-leather cell-phone cases that clip to my belt that I pick up on the streets of Manhattan for $5 each (the store Five Below, which I've seen in NJ and PA and may be expanding beyond there, also stocks them). In the right size, they work really well, and happen to have a nice opening for the tubing to come out. They last about a year before getting really worn, and I really find them invaluable . And for sleeping, the pump just lays in bed next to me. I only wear pajama pants with pockets, but have given up trying to get the pump to stay in there.
