Let's get moving. Diabetes Blog Week Day 5

Day 5- Let's get moving. Exercise . . . love it or hate it? Do you have a regular exercise routine? Or do you have trouble finding your exercise motivation? How do you manage your insulin and food to avoid bottoming out during your workout? Today is the day to tell us all about your exercise habits, or lack thereof.

This is exactly what I look like.  Yeah, right . . .
If there is one thing I'm very consistent about, it's exercise.  I work out regularly.  The reasons I might skip a day are few and far between.  In fact, I'll list them here.

Reasons I Might Miss a Workout
  • My blood sugar is too low.
  • My blood sugar is too high.
  • My back hurts.
  • My knee hurts.
  • My head hurts.
  • It's too hot out.
  • It's too cold out.
  • I didn't get enough sleep last night.  (I almost never get enough sleep.)
  • It's Tuesday.  (Valid because we have our ballroom lesson on Tuesday, and I have convinced myself that 45 minutes of ballroom dancing is a legitimate workout.  It might be, if only much of our lesson wasn't spent laughing at ourselves and goofing off.)
  • My cat is sleeping.  (She's afraid of everything and dragging the treadmill out while she is sleeping would scare her.)
  • I don't feeeeeel like it.  (Said in my most whiny voice.)
So yeah, as you can see, I workout regularly.  I'd say I get about 4 or 5 sessions in every . . . . uuummm . . . what's that word I'm looking for?  Week?  No, that's not it.  Month?  Maybe, but not quite.  Year?  Yeah, that's it.  Four or five good workouts every year!  Awesome!

  1. hahahaha. because your cat is sleeping? a couple of cats (including K.C.'s long lost twin) hide in the room with the elliptical. I'll get started and WHOOSH, they sprint out of that room. (Good that they're getting exercise, too, right!?!)

And I do think your ballroom dancing is valid activity :)

  2. Great list of excuses!
I listened to your interview this morning and you were simply wonderful and fun!

  3. haha! love it! i think the cat sleeping is my favorite. :)

  4. Okay - Karen - you've got me beat with your excuses - but still at least you do ballroom dancing - that's good aerobic exercise!!!

Here's my sorry excuse for why my stomach hangs over my belt (good for injections - yeah - right - right) ...

  5. I would say Ballroom Dancing is legit exercise.

You still exercise more than I do. Seriously.

  6. Great post! On Tuesday I did my regular workout in the morning and then did about 40 some odd minutes of cardio kick boxing for a church activity that night. I thought I was going to die! I've been sore ever since. So yeah, I would say don't exercise twice in one day. Ballroom dancing is enough.

  7. Very entertaining - thank you for the chuckle :).

  8. All of those are definitely very valid excuses!

  9. my exercise consists of swimming but to get the amount of time i need for it to be useful at all requires me to get up at 4am. Yep...FOUR A M!

so...that hasn't been happening for quite a while plus i've been living in migraineville for over a year... but i hope to start swimming again, maybe even as soon as next week..

  10. That list sounds familiar :)

  11. Ahhhhh! Your post scared me a little...that picture brought back memories of college when I was on the crew team, and we had to use those awful rowing machine when the outdoor conditions were not favorable for rowing. I hope I can sleep tonight.

  12. Ahahah, I was gearing up to be super annoyed with your exercise habits of perfection, and then you hit me with the punchline. Well played! :)

  13. You have a great sense of humor! I love the post! :-) As for ballroom dancing - it's totally a work-out! And laughter totally counts as a work-out too!

  14. Hahahah. This is SO me Karen, seriously! :-D

  15. Karen, you are so right about being able to find reasons not to exercise. I think some of us could be awarded a PhD degree in that particular subject. I just wish I could say "four or five good workouts every year". I'm afraid I'm not quite there yet, but I was looking at a reclining bike at Canadian Tire yesterday. There's a good possibility it or one like it, will be a purchase very soon. Take care.

  16. Ballroom dancing is totally legit. So is a sleeping KC.
