Live from New York . . . .

it's the D-OC!!!

Every year Cara, a die-hard Broadway Fan, makes a trip to New York City.  This year I was finally able to attend the annual diabetes meet up.  Yay!!!  We all met for lunch at Le Pain Quotidien at noon.  (Although one of us was very late because the only subway she knew would get her up-town to the right stop wasn't running on Sunday.  Stupid subway!!)

From left to right: Erik and Allison, Gina, Scott, Cara, Jason and Lee Ann, me, Tina, Stacey, Mara and  my hubby Pete.

After a fun lunch, a bunch of us took advantage of the beautiful weather by strolling through Central Park.  I suppose we looked a bit odd when we all gathered in a circle, pulling out our pumps to compare the various features.  It seemed pretty natural to me though!

Once we made our way back down to 59th street, it was about time to say our good-byes.  Pete and I were up for some more walking, and since we'd pass Cara's hotel on our way back to Grand Central, the three of us set off down 5th Avenue.  I was really lucky to snag some extra time to chat with Cara.  And I couldn't help but get a touristy picture of us in Rockefeller Center.

It's always such fun to take on-line connections made though blogging and Twitter and bring them into the real world.  I'm sure other tourists people-watching in NYC would never have guessed that Cara and I met for the first time just a couple of hours before.  They would probably have bet that we were old friends.  Because when you get right down to it, we are!

  1. Wow! That is awesome that you got to all meet up. Darn - if I'd known - NYC is only a short drive away from Montreal. Maybe next time, I'll join up with you all.

I love the vision I'm getting in my head of you all pulling out your pumps in Central Park :)

So, did any of you ladies buy a pair of Manolo Blahniks? Or at least try on a pair?

  2. I'm so jealous it's not even funny!

Florida's a real long subway ride away, though. :)

  3. :) I tell everyone "I'm meeting my friends" when I talk about the meet-ups....even if I'd only met 4 of them people before. Everyone else was new. But you guys ARE my friends. I'm so happy we all got to hang out and that we got to meet for the first time IRL. :)

  4. That is so great!!
I refer to all of my bloggy friends as friends when I am referring to them. Most of them I have never met in person. It doesn't matter - does it? I feel like I know them and they are always around to support me and me them.

    Looks like a great time!!!!

  5. Completely awesome! I love to hear about all the tweet-ups! :)

  6. OMG! I wish I live a little closer. I would've loved to hang it with all of my friends. Great pictures and I am glad you all had the chance to hang out:)

  7. Sounds like a great time. I am jealous. It seems like the midwest is fairly barren place when it comes to meetups (unless your willing to drive 7 hours..)

  8. WOOT WOOT!!!!!

I met up with 2 D-Mamas in LAS VEGAS!!!!!!!! Yup. Went to Sin City with strangers...and had a BLAST :)

  9. I love going places with friends. You have many!
NYC... looks great. I haven't been in a few years, miss it.

  10. I seriously debated hopping on a plane to come out for that one... it would have been a really long day, and in the end, 1 day to get to NY from SF and back just won't work. I am so bummed I wasn't there - it looks like such a great time!

  11. It was such a good time hanging out with you again and everyone else! It would be so great to do it more often =)

  12. Aw, that looks like so much fun! I love reading about the meet-ups, it's amazing how blog friends so easily become "real life friends"!
